According to ISO 26324, metadata describing and identifying the referent to which the DOI name is being assigned shall be recorded promptly and accurately. In addition:

•Data elements and allowed values used in DOI metadata declarations shall be placed in a repository (data dictionary) to facilitate interoperability across selected existing schemes.

•The metadata shall meet the minimum requirements of the DOI Kernel Metadata Declaration.
